Daniel Thingummy, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, David Thewliss, Jason Isaacs pretty much every great British actor currently working (except for Helen Mirren and those who were in previous Potter films). Dir. David Yates. Writers: Steve Kloves (script) and JK Rowling (novel).
It's pushing it to call it "the movie event of a generation", but only a bit. Unusually for an Ignorant, I've seen all the previous Potter films, and, even more unusually, I loved them. I'd expected to hate them, particularly those precocious little ****s in the main roles, and while they were decidedly ropey in the first couple of films, they have grown into half-decent actors. Except Emma Watson, maybe, but she manages to keep up. It might be pointed out that it would be remiss of any actor to fail to achieve at least a solid command of their craft after ten years working with the likes of Harris, Gambon, Isaacs, Fiennes, Rickman, Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson, Helena Bonham-Carter, Brendan Gleeson and the rest of the cream of the British acting profession, but even in my most ignorant moments I'd consider such an accusation a tad churlish.
Anyway. Deathly Hallows Part 1 is going to be unmissable. The Potter series is what big movie-making should be all about. I may even go see it. Possibly. We'll see. I'm quite busy at the moment.
